ANGER MANAGEMENT

“An angry person stirs up conflict, and a hot-tempered person commits many sins.” — Proverbs 29:22 (NIV)

Anger, when left unchecked, is a destructive force. As Proverbs 29:22 warns us, it leads to strife and sin. Many lives have been ruined by uncontrolled anger. Some have made foolish decisions in the heat of the moment—decisions they regret even today. Anger has destroyed families, ended promising careers, torn apart businesses, and even led to the fall of nations.

If you cannot control your anger, you will eventually sin against God daily. This is why the Bible gives a clear instruction in Ephesians 4:26: “Be angry, and do not sin” do not let the sun go down on your wrath. This tells us that anger itself is not the problem—it’s what we allow it to do to us. It’s impossible to live a life completely free of anger. At some point, someone will offend you, a situation will push you to the edge, and you will feel angry. But anger must never be allowed to rule over you.

Even God gets angry. In the Old Testament, we read of times when God’s anger was stirred against Israel because of their disobedience. Jesus Himself became angry when He entered the temple and found people buying and selling instead of worshiping. But His anger was righteous—He didn’t lose control or sin.

The problem is not the emotion of anger, but the lack of control over it. Many people today are enslaved by their tempers. They lash out with words or actions, hurting others and grieving the Holy Spirit. But the good news is: you are not alone in this battle. You don’t have to fight your temper in your own strength.

The Holy Spirit can help you. Just as He calmed the raging sea, He can calm the storm inside your heart. When you surrender to Him, He will teach you how to manage your emotions and handle offense without falling into sin. Confess today that you need His help. He is ready to guide and empower you to master your anger.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, calm my heart, control my anger, teach me your peace, and help me never to sin in my anger. Amen.
